This photo shows The Chief Justice of Nigeria and head of the Supreme Court, Tanko Mohammed and the President, Mohammadu Buhari in a social gathering. This is inexcusable in the face of law and faces of Nigerians. If Atiku’s case gets to the Supreme court, which it most likely would, this is the man that he would be facing. This is the man that will give the final decision in Atiku’s case. And this same man having social gatherings with Atiku’s Clear Opposition, Mohammed Buhari.
Atiku’s case is presently still in the tribunal. If the Court of Appeal doesn’t rule in his favour, he has every right to appeal to a higher court. The higher court in this regard is the Supreme Court. The present Chief Justice of the Supreme Court is Tanko Mohammed. He recently attained this position after the former CJN, Walter Onnoghen was charged to court in relations to certain alleged asset declaration issues.
According to the Code of Conduct for Judicial Officers, no judicial officer is to be in any social gathering that will suggest that he is being biased or that he favours a party to a case. Whatever event that people might speculate the president and Mohammed were in, it doesn’t excuse them from what the law clearly provides. Their unscrupulous activity shows obvious bias and it is important for Nigerians to understand this.
Recall that the President of the Court of Appeal who was also the head of the tribunal deciding Atiku’s case recently stepped down as a result of the same allegation of bias. It is a popular saying in law that justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done. It can be clearly seen by many Nigerians that the stage has been set to bring injustice to Atiku’s case. Nevertheless, it is the hope that the activities that we are aware of will one day bring Atiku the justice that he deserves.
