The Kano State gubernatorial election amidst controversies was declared inconclusive by INEC. These controversies happened as the candidate of the PDP; Engr Abba K Yusuf was maintaining a comfortable lead, with over 26,000 vote margin. The re-run was then slated for today 23rd of March 2019, and the stories have become worse. Pictures of broken heads, videos of thugs suspected to be from the ruling party, carting away ballot boxes and intimidating voters have since emerged. There are reports according to premium times and BBC Hausa service, of journalists and observers being attacked, with some of them escaping death by chance.
However, the PDP in Kano State through their party chairman Alhaji Bichi has called on the INEC to effect the cancellation of the re-run election in Kano State, holding that it is a scam, ridden with violence, voter suppression, intimidation, and widespread rigging. Recall that Kano’s election alongside Bauchi, Sokoto, Plateau, Adamawa and Benue states, was declared inconclusive. Violence has also been reported for places like Sokoto and Benue, where the official PDP were leading, as of the time the election was declared inconclusive.
